Thursday I had some tickets to a pre-screening of Beauty Shop and almost didn't get a seat. I got there 40 minutes early and it was packed! I couldn't believe how many black people were not only on time, but EARLY. Anyway, I wasn't expecting much out of this movie. I mean, we already had 2 Barbershops, was a female version really necessary?? Well the beginning of the movie started with Queen Latifah's character, Gina, going to work at some posh salon owned by a snooty white man with a european accent. Apparently, Gina no longer worked at the chicago salon next to Calvin's like we saw in Barbershop 2. Which meant no Ice Cube cameo! Boooooo!
Gina moved to Atlanta so that her daughter could attend some prestigious music school. She eventually quits her job at the posh salon and starts her own with a very, very small business loan that is not enough to fix the place up to code. Of course this means she may not be able to keep the salon open. *gasp* What a shocking plot! Other things going on in the movie is the jealous owner of the other salon trying to sabotage Gina's shop... The white girl who apparently does black hairstyles well, but has no customers at first... And then there is the sexy, ex-con, black male stylist who has everyone wondering if he's gay or straight.
What I disliked and could've done without:
What I liked about the movie:
Despite the unoriginality, would I recommend everyone seeing this movie in an actual theater? Yes, the laughs are worth the $10. I plan on getting the DVD when it comes out, especially so I can freeze frame Bryce.

So far I've been to work for three days and I miss my afternoon naps already. But I don't miss anything else about being unemployed except for the fact that I'm not going to see when Whitney Russell finally tells her half brother Chad that she's really pregnant with his baby and not by his half brother Fox like everyone thinks. *LOL*
Anyway, I am very excited about my future with the lovely company that has employed me. I don't want to say too much about them because the company is kind of unique that it would be easy to find through google and I don't need anymore people trying to track me down. But I will say that it's a lot smaller than what I'm use to with less than 100 employees and 99% of them are male.
I work in the front office with about 10 very friendly people. There's so much for me to learn and it's very overwhelming, but I should be fine once I get the hang of things.
